Association of Custom House Agents Thiruvananthapuram erstwhile known as Trivandrum CHA Association was incepted in 1987 by the Licensed Custom House Agents in Thiruvananthapuram. Association is registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955. Custom House Agents Licensing Regulations 1984 as specified in Section 146 of Customs Act 1962. This set of regulations is subject to change from time to time and the current set of regulations is called Customs Brokers’ Licensing Regulations 2018 after changed the name of Custom House Agents(CHA) to Customs Brokers (CB). In the year 2003, it was renamed as Association of Custom House Agents Thiruvananthapuram – commonly called ACHAT in short. Customs Brokers are those who are licensed by Commissioner of Customs for undertaking and facilitating Customs Clearance of Export cargo from and Import Cargo into India through Trivandrum International Airport and administered by Air Cargo Customs in the Air Cargo Complex. ACHAT is duly recognized by the Commissioner of Customs, Thiruvananthapuram and is constituted for the purpose of taking up various issues faced by the EXIM trade in general and Custom House Agents in particular with Customs and other Partnered Government Agencies in connection with Customs Clearance. The welfare of Customs Brokers and its workforce, training for updating skills in the subject of Customs Clearance and other related areas, join hands with Customs & Custodians for trade facilitation are also equally important roles taken by ACHAT.
